Team Rebel Sports Inc. started in 1996 when Joel Cu, the brains behind this company, together with his wife, Grace Cu, put up a customized, sports uniform manufactory in their family's garage. He handled the artwork and printing, working alongside seven sewers and two cutters. The different kinds of fabric they used were provided by Joel's uncle, Ramon Ang.
They catered to well-known schools like Ateneo de Manila University and De La Salle University, crafting uniforms for their varsity teams. The work was arduous and tough, but as Joel Cu stated, "It was like planting a seed. You have to put effort to make it grow into tree."
In 2001, that entire struggle of the people behind the company resulted in another form of success when Joel Cu presented his design and ideas to Toby's Sports, the leading sports house in the Philippines. Toby's Sports liked the proposal and decided to be part of the Team Rebel's ready-to-wear products. Now, they also have concessions in Olympic Village and Pro House.
Today, however, TRS is decidedly focused on making customized sports uniforms, and they are going global with it. TRS has clients in different countries like US, Canada, Australia and UK who cannot be more satisfied of its products.
All the strenuous work, like marketing and talking to clients, are done in their head office in Manila. They have a fully capable factory in Antipolo City, which is around 600 square meters in floor area. They now have 130 personnel.
Team Rebel Sports Inc. certainly had an eventful history, but it is more certain that their future as customized uniform makers will be brighter than that of anyone in the sports industry.
